IPv4 Subnetting Guide

An IPv4 address is 32 bits. A prefix /p reserves the first p bits for network membership and leaves 32−p host bits. The subnet mask has p contiguous one-bits. Network calculation is a bitwise AND; the broadcast fills the remaining bits with ones. An address entered as 192.168.50.37/26 belongs to 192.168.50.0/26, not a subnet starting at .37.

CompTIA Network+ Complete Study Guide

Network+ N10-009 is a vendor-neutral networking exam. This guide organizes a study process across concepts, implementation, operations, security and troubleshooting. The word guide does not mean this app guarantees complete official objective coverage or exam success. Download the current official objectives and map every numbered item to reading, practice and evidence of understanding.

CompTIA Network+ vs Security+

Network+ centers on how networks are designed, implemented, operated and repaired. Security+ focuses more broadly on security concepts, threats, architecture, operations and governance. Both discuss networks and controls, but a shared topic can have different learning objectives: connectivity design versus risk reduction and evidence handling.

VLAN Complete Explanation

VLANs create distinct logical L2 broadcast domains over shared switch hardware. ARP broadcast in VLAN 10 does not reach VLAN 20 through ordinary switching. Assign IP subnets consistently with the VLAN plan; changing a mask to make addresses look similar does not join separate VLANs.

Start

ARP Poisoning and Defences

ARP translates a next-hop IPv4 address to a link address but has no built-in identity proof. Forged advertisements can replace a gateway mapping and divert traffic. Attacks require an applicable local segment context; do not assume any remote Internet host can directly poison every internal ARP table.

Cisco IOS Commands Reference

Cisco CLI modes distinguish user EXEC, privileged EXEC and configuration context. Commands vary by platform and release. Observe before modifying: inspect interfaces, VLANs and routes, record current state and plan rollback. ITAV supports only its documented educational parser, not arbitrary IOS syntax.

OSI Model Explained

Physical handles signals; data link frames and local delivery; network logical addressing/routing; transport end-to-end delivery; session conversation coordination; presentation representation/security concepts; application service protocols. The model is a reasoning tool, not a promise that every product or protocol belongs exclusively to one layer.

How TCP/IP Works

The TCP/IP architecture separates application behavior, transport, internet delivery and link access. IP offers best-effort forwarding; TCP adds reliable ordered byte-stream delivery between endpoints. UDP is a datagram transport without TCP’s stream reliability mechanisms. An application selects a transport appropriate to its own design.

Start

NAT Explained

Static NAT establishes a fixed address mapping; dynamic NAT chooses from a pool; PAT uses transport ports to multiplex many flows onto fewer outside addresses. Translation is an addressing mechanism with state/lookup implications. It is not synonymous with a firewall or a proof that a host is safe.

Start

Firewall Types and Architectures

Packet filters evaluate header rules; stateful firewalls track conversations; proxies terminate and inspect application exchanges; next-generation products add application/identity features with vendor-specific capabilities. Choose controls for required trust boundaries and observable enforcement, not a label alone.

Start

Network Simulator vs Real Hardware

Deterministic models support repeated fault isolation, addressing, route reasoning and safe controlled experimentation. You can reset an exercise and compare a known broken state to a verified fix. The important benefit is visibility into a mechanism, not a claim that every vendor behavior is reproduced.

Free Networking Labs Online

A useful online lab has clear objectives, meaningful input, derived feedback and honest limitations. Check whether it requires an account, local installation, software images or a paid tier. Availability and pricing can change, so use current provider information rather than treating an old comparison as a guarantee.

Quantum Computing and Encryption

A sufficiently capable fault-tolerant quantum computer could apply Shor’s algorithm to undermine common RSA and elliptic-curve public-key assumptions. Grover’s search gives a quadratic speedup against ideal brute-force symmetric search, which is different from instantly breaking every AES key. Do not claim today’s ordinary devices can decrypt all protected traffic.
