IPv6 Address Basics
Subnetting
Overview
IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses expressed as eight hexadecimal hextets. Leading zeros may be omitted; one consecutive run of zero hextets may be compressed with ::. Link-local addresses use fe80::/10; documentation examples use 2001:db8::/32. IPv6 has multicast rather than broadcast.
